High Availability Network (HAN)
High Performance, Highly Reliable and Highly Secure Managed Private Network
Since 1998 Small and Medium sized enterprises have enjoyed the benefits of a national private IP network without the considerable capital expenditure and high operating costs that organizations would have to incur to build and run it themselves. Our customers could share their data without ever touching the Internet and avoid the pain of slow performance, reliability and security risks associated with Internet based solutions that cannot not deliver business grade services.
With the completion of the High Availability Network (HAN) true multi-carrier diversity is achieved by integrating the parallel services from all the top tier Australian network carriers, such as Telstra, Optus and Powertel and is built with no single point of failure on secure, redundant state of the art technologies. As a result ISP providers, Channel Partners and small and medium sized businesses utilizing the HAN enjoy a higher level of reliability, performance and value than any one provider or carrier can offer on their own.
With the completion of the HAN, Customers and partners enjoy the luxury of not having to choose one top tier carrier or provider but instead leveraging the infrastructure of all of them simultaneously and enjoying higher levels of performance, redundancy and reliability of service as a result.
What is the High Availability Network (HAN)?
The HAN is a private MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) network service that offers a highly scalable, protocol agnostic, voice and data communications service to customers and partners.
Businesses can operate multiple data linking technologies such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), frame relay, Ethernet; and other new or legacy protocols.
The HAN has been built to support the delivery of Voice, Data and Video traffic using highly sophisticated Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities. Such QoS capabilities guarantee service levels of assigned bandwidth and delivery timeframes by grouping and prioritising data into various classes of service. This is in contrast to the lower grade Class of Service (CoS) technologies that only achieve “best effort” delivery of Voice, Data and Video services.
Customers easily, quickly and cost effectively connect their businesses together on a professional enterprise grade network without the cost, time, resource and effort of building and managing a private network themselves. All of a businesses Voice, Data and Video Communication needs are delivered as a Service as part of our Data Communication On-Demand service offering.
Until now, providers of managed private IP Networks have typically bought individual services from a single carrier. In this sub-optimal model, the private IP Network provider’s core network is entirely dependent on a single carrier service. If there is a fault or outage on the carriers network that will impact many or all of it’s customers. Despite the large investments in carrier networks these kinds of faults and/or outages are all too frequent and have a major impact on businesses who rely on these networks to run their mission and business critical data, voice and video services.
The HAN has been built to integrate the services of all major national carriers establishing “multi-carrier diversity” which means that network traffic is dynamically switched between national carriers. If there is a technical fault, storm, flood, fire or other event that impacts a particular carrier’s network, the HAN automatically switches to an alternative carriers service often using diverse geographical paths to enhance redundancy.
All integration and switching is seamless and instantaneous causing no loss of traffic or performance. The HAN is built to ensure there is no single point of failure, leveraging carrier, infrastructure and geographical diversity at all levels.
As an example, IntraPower has acquired Gigabit bandwidth from multiple carriers between Sydney and Brisbane and structured this link with carrier and geographical diversity. If a fault, storm, flood, fire or other event impacts the Sydney to Brisbane coastal route all traffic is automatically switched to the inland route and a completely different carrier. All integration and switching is seamless and instantaneous causing no loss of traffic or performance and is as a result invisible to IntraPower customers.
The entire core network is built out to ensure there is no single point of failure, leveraging carrier, infrastructure and geographical diversity at all levels. IntraPower operates redundant Points of Presence (POPS) and data centres in capital cities that are located in different parts of the city, on separate parts of the electricity power grid and serviced by separate providers. If an adverse event impacts one data centre the services automatically failover to the other without any service interruptions.
The HAN is a Data Communications platform that allows businesses to take advantage of the Business On-Demand suite of services. With Business On-Demand, the next generation of Software as a Service (SaaS), customers no longer need any costly and complicated on-site, in-house IT or Voice installations. All their Software and Communications needs are delivered as a Service from secure data centres and charged per user per month. The services helps customers lower their Information, Communication, Technology & Telecommunications (ICT & T) Operating costs, virtually eliminate ICT & T related capital expenditure, convert current sunk costs, overhead and unpredictable ICT & T expenditure into predictable and controllable fixed costs.
Global Coverage
For customers requiring connectivity to their international locations, the HAN delivers network coverage and access through key international carriers and service providers. A “Global” Managed Private IP Network provides connectivity to remote international locations or it can join a larger multi-country Private IP solution to form a single global network. International Leased Lines provide dedicated point to point transmission between locations for connection to specialised customer equipment or use in conjunction with specialised applications.
